Something that I started doing this year was use my art to make fliers for music/art/community events. It's something that just happened because someone asked me if I could. It's a nice feeling and realization that my art isn't meant for one audience but for all kinds of crowds. Here are a handful that I made this year.
This is the first flyer I made in 2011 for a benefit show. This show was a big success and we ended up raising a lot of money for this mans kidney transplant and we melted some faces along the way. Halloween Swim Team actually ended up using my font for their new band merchandise.
One of my friends asked me if I could do the text on one of his drawings to be used as a flyer for an art show he was curating, he even let me choose the show name- the name was from a drawing of his that I liked.
This is by far my favorite flyer I have ever done. My friend Dorian had this really weird photo of herself with this creepy brown wrinkled face that had an eyeball in the middle of her forehead while holding a doll and a water bottle in the other hand. I asked for her permission to draw from the photo and this is what came from it. Thank you Dorian and this show ended up hurting my feelings in the head, there was a fight that broke out during Bleach's set and the band members completely brushed it off, I was really bummed on them for not confronting the audience members who fought. I would've kicked them out of my show for sure.
Right before I left to Vancouver I rushed to finish this flyer. This is one show that I would've really wanted to go to, one of my friends told me when I came back from my trip that a lot of people at the show that night were asking about the artist who designed the flyer and how much does he charge, that was really nice to hear that people were actually giving these flyers recognition.
A flyer for our second Pick Up Your Shit event in Pomona. I used an old photograph I took at a family outing to the beach. I remember seeing this old man on the beach with loafers and thought it was the most beautiful/weird image so I walked towards him inconspicuously to try and take a photograph of him and as I came closer, he took of his shoes. I feel pretty lucky that he did.
Michelle Loren took this beautiful photograph and I became in charge of making a flyer for this group exhibition that I was taking part in. Michelle took a ton of this little photographs but I liked this one the best.
And finally, this is the latest flyer I just finished a few days ago. It's for Phaxanation & The Dust Kickers. I've been to a lot of their shows and they are hands down my favorite local band/favorite bands. Adrien, the singer/guitarist of the band asked me I wanted to make the flyer for this show and I didn't hesitate. So glad I could have the chance to do this for them after all the great music that they have shared with me.
